Three Families and Four Generations
On November 16, 2011 we welcomed the newest addtion to the Covey crew into the world, Violet Miriam Lamb. My sister Jen was hoping I could grab a shot or two for a baby announcement/Christmas card. Violet couldn't have been more cooperative as she laid curled up in my mom's antique coal bucket on a festive Christmas blanket. We had no choice but to plop on the Santa hat! During the same session, we got a few photographs of the four beautiful generations of the Himes/Covey/Lamb families.

The Hutzel Family Welcomes Claire!
The Hutzel family is close friends to us. We work together at school and in fact, Tess (their first born) was the first youngin' I shot, with only a black sheet, camera, and a dream to start a business in photography. When they asked me to take photos of their second little girl, Claire, I was honored. I wanted to try some new and different shots. My goal was to capture modern and candid shots. Here are few of my favorites!

The Hawthorne Sisters at Sully Plantation
We couldn't have asked for a more perfect November morning last weekend at Sully Plantation with the Hawthorne girls. Cassie and Brianna weren't too excited about a photo shoot at first, but once they wriggled out of their tights, ditched the shoes, and got a chance to explore the grounds and play in the leaves, all was well! We caught some sisterly love and sweet smiles...

The Murphy Family at Sully Plantation
I've found that some of the coolest moments to capture are those shared by new and growing families. Last Saturday we met the Murphy family at Sully Plantation for some family photos. The photos from this session make it easy to see that Chad, Anna, and their son Tyler can't get enough of one another. Their laid-back personalities helped me to photograph more natural family fun, rather than posed portraits.

The Banua Family
It's not often that an entire family is all together in one place! Last weekend the Banua clan gathered in Sterling for the weekend, so we got out the camera to document. I don't photograph large groups as often, so it was a fun challenge to get all 13 people together for a great family photo! While we were there, I got a few shots of the recently engaged couple! Congratulations!

Studio Jumping | Covey Photography | Centreville, VA Photographer
Over the past couple of weeks I have wanted to get back in the studio and use my strobes. So, when Allison went away for a girls weekend I took advantage of the "alone" time. Needless to say I had way too much fun "studio jumping."

Happy Halloween | Covey Photography | Arlington, VA Photographer
Every year for Halloween, Brian Ulsh and his family go all out! The family works together during the month of October to turn their home into the N. Jackson Street Cemetery in Arlington, VA, and put together a life-altering Halloween experience for community residents. Allison and I drove out there to check it out and take some photos, and we were amazed at the creativity, time, and hard work put into this experience! Brian gave us a tour of the haunted house and told us about experience he plans to create for visitors on October 31. A trip through the house is open to everyone who dare to enter, and doesn't cost a thing. This haunted house promises the creepiest, scariest, and most life-changing experience you can expect. Enjoy the montage of photos from our visit!

A Bushel and a Peck! | Covey Photography | Markham, VA Photographer
What a beautiful weekend to travel to Hartland Orchard! Allison and I travelled west last fall and fell in love with Hartland Orchard. Unfortunately, last year, we waited to late in the season and were late to pick apples. This year was a different story, we got there early and enjoyed a beautiful day of picking apples. I mentioned on Facebook last Saturday that the orchard would be a great place to capturing fantastic family moments. Covey Photography for hire!

The Cormier Wedding | Covey Photography | Cape May, NJ Photographer
On September 23, 2011 we set out up the coast to Cape May, NJ for the wedding of our friends Amanda and Josh. They had planned a beautiful wedding on the beach, which ended up being a beautiful ceremony at the country club in front of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water due to a rainy forecast. Josh and Amanda have bounced from place to place in the U.S. due to Josh's military orders, and will finally get to settle together in New Jersey this fall. An exceptional live band (Chatterband), an unbelievable dance party, and hysterical photo booth photos made the Park/Cormier wedding an event we will never forget. Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Josh Cormier!

A Nute Family Celebration! | Covey Photography | Nags Head, NC Photographer
A summer is not complete without a trip to the Outer Banks. In August, we got to join Allison's best friend Brynne, and her entire extended family for a few days of fun in Nags Head. The family wanted to capture photos of Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim's 50th Anniversary celebration, along with family photos that spanned four generations. With only about an hour of perfect evening light on the beach, we had to work quickly, but we managed to get each individual family, and a grand finale shot of the entire crew.
